Willie's newest album, 'Ride Me Back Home', was released today. My copy arrived yesterday and I've been playing the stank out of it. It's a mix of familiar songs like Guy Clarke's 'My Favorite Picture Of You', and 'Immigrant Eyes', Billy Joel's ' Just The Way You Are' and Mac Davis's 'Hard To Be Humble'. There are also several new songs by Willie and friends. Here are a couple for your enjoyment. I copied the lyrics of these two songs from what we used to call Liner Notes because they aren't available online at AZ Lyrics or Genius Lyrics, et al. Quite a range of different music on this album. Enjoy ...
He was choking back the tears
As he tried to tell his wife
That the job he'd had for years
He worked hard all his life
Then everything went south
And he couldn't meet the bills
And he had to sell the house
That his daddy built
And he asked how such a thing could be happening
But he was sure there was nobody listening
In the Gulf of Mexico
Near the town of New Orleans
Where all the tourists go
In this land of hopes and dreams
Then there came a killer storm
A devastating flood
And the people they were warned
That it would turn their streets to mud
Sure enough that storm took everything
And it was like there was nobody listening
In these days of change and mass communication
Seems like no one's plugged in to the sound of desperation
And they say the future's just an extension of the past
And history has a knack of coming back
Now the writer takes his pen
And he tries to find the words
Though time and time again
They often go unheard
And the singer sings his song
And he tries to impart
All the troubles going on
Weighing heavy on his heart
But what good is a song that he has to sing
When nobody's listening
But I know why he has to try to sing
'Cause he believes that somebody's listening
Chorus:
I had the seven year itch
Scratched it out in three
Well you may say how
But you don't know me
I'm taking my licks
I'm paying my fee
I had the seven year itch
Scratched it out in three
Been ridin' my mind 'round my neighborhood
Gettin' nowhere slow, but I'm feelin' good
Stayed up all night, that's when I'm at my best
Sleep all day and that's too much rest
Repeat Chorus
I went crazy one day, but I came back when
I caught myself going crazy again
I decided to write the world's best song
But when I got around to it, it had done moved on
Repeat Chorus
