Cue The Screaming Guitars ....

Happy Birthday Ritchie Blackmore! Here's a couple from Deep Purple's Machine Head, my personal favorite album of theirs. I was 20 when this album was released and had already been in the Army nearly a year. I had a Honda 305 Superhawk and like every OTHER 20 year old man-child in America,Highway Star was my song. Arguably one of the best guitar solos of all time by Blackmore. enjoy ...

This one, Pictures Of Home, has a driving rhythm like Highway Star and all the individual solos are incredible, too.
Ian Gillan - Vocals
Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar
Roger Glover - Bass
Ian Paice - Drums
Jon Lord (RIP 1941 - 2012) - Organ, keyboards

Somebody's shouting
Up at a mountain
Only my own words return
Nobody's up there
It's a deception
When will I ever learn?

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And whispering pictures of home

Wondering blindly
How can they find me
Maybe they don't even know
My body is shaking
Anticipating
The call of the black footed crow...

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And taunting with pictures of home

Here in this prison
Of my own making
Year after day I have grown
Into a hero
But there's no worship
Where have they hidden my thrown...

I'm alone here
With emptiness eagles and snow
Unfriendliness chilling my body
And screaming out pictures of home

But it's Ritchie Blackmore's Birthday! 72

  1. Deep Purple is my Dad's favorite group, too. I grew up hearing Smoke On The Water nearly every day. These songs kick a** too!

  2. I'd hate to try and decide on ONE favorite band, Natassia, but DP is fer sure one OF 'em. Your Dad sounds like a cool guy. I suggest you listen to more of his kind of music. There's a few good ones from back then.
    Thanks for your comment.
